Pain, Well-Being and Rehabilitation in Riga
Pain is real. A single scan, diagnosis or emotional factor rarely explains a person's full experience. Physical health, activity, sleep, mood, work and support may all be relevant when planning rehabilitation.
A whole-person assessment
Rehabilitation teams may consider how symptoms affect movement and daily activities alongside health history, sleep, activity demands, concerns and personal goals. This broader view helps guide discussion and planning; it does not mean that pain is imagined or that one factor can explain every person's symptoms.
Research reviews report associations between some psychological and social factors and persistent musculoskeletal pain. Associations do not prove cause, and they cannot predict an individual person's recovery. An assessment should consider the person's specific situation rather than assume the same explanation or plan applies to everyone.
How a rehabilitation plan may respond
Depending on the clinical assessment, rehabilitation may include education, individually selected exercise, movement practice and gradual return to relevant daily activities. The plan should reflect the person's needs, preferences, health guidance and progress. No single approach is appropriate for every condition, and outcomes cannot be guaranteed.
For adults with chronic primary low back pain, the World Health Organization guideline covers several classes of non-surgical care, including structured education, physical interventions and psychological interventions. NICE advises that cognitive behavioural therapy for low back pain should be considered as part of a package that includes exercise. These recommendations have specific populations and scopes; they should not be applied automatically to every musculoskeletal problem.
If emotional distress or other concerns are affecting well-being, discuss them with an appropriate healthcare professional. A physiotherapy assessment does not replace mental-health care where that is needed.
